Discover the neighbour to the Château, that of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois. On a hill, its impressive silhouette has reigned over the medieval village since 1175 A.D. You can also visit the village of Sainte Sabine, once called Lassey, with a church dedicated to Saint Martin. Its celebration of Saint Sabine began in the 12th century, always honoured twice a year.
Then pay a visit to the Abbey of Fontenay (1118 A.D.), founded by Saint Bernard de Clairvaux, a masterpiece of Romanesque art. After enjoying the serenity of a spiritual building, set off for the 12th-C. Château de Bussy-Rabutin, famous for its collection of portraits of ladies said to have been loved by Roger Bussy-Rabutin…
Then on to Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, a town built around a Benedictine abbey (719 A.D.). Its ramparts, fortified gates, narrow cobbled streets, house and mansions hold many secrets... Autun is also well worth a detour. Its renown can be attributed to its Roman builder, Emperor Augustus. Dijon then proposes a rich heritage: a beautiful city centre, spectacular churches, half-timbered houses and the Dukes' Palace, now home to the Fine Arts Museum. Beaune offers prestigious vineyards, majestic narrow streets and almshouses. Retracing history, the MuséoParc Alésia focuses on the famous battle between Julius Caesar and Vercingetorix! Finally, the Château de Commarin is a must-see with its harmonious facades. Truly splendid!
The Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune vineyards propose tastings, tours of the vines and cellars. The 18th-C. Château de Pommard features an enclosure of 49.5 acres, classic French gardens, a wine and vineyard museum. La Maison Bouchard Aîné & Fils also merits your attention. A prestige signature (1750 A.D.), it is synonymous with tradition and excellence. Then enjoy immersion in the cellars of Chablis. These great white wines enrapture fans of œnology, as at Le Domaine de Flavigny-Alésia… At the heart of L’Auxois, this 34.6-acre vineyard estate is a shining example of Burgundy's know-how!
Fans of sport will appreciate the cycling route along the Canal de Bourgogne (3 km from the Château), hiking, horse-riding or biking in L’Auxois and the Regional Nature Park of Le Morvan. The GR13, GR de Pays and Bibracte Alésia lead you to a discovery of Le Morvan. Golf enthusiasts can also indulge in their favourite sport on nearby courses. Even water sports are on the menu: sailing on the lake of Panthier, with a nautical base, a fleet of boats, and specialised supervision for initiation in sailing. Bathing is authorised on the reservoir of Panthier… Out in the open air, climb aboard La Billebaude for a trip to the top of the Canal de Bourgogne. Fans of motor sports have an appointment on the Auto/Moto Trial and Go-kart Circuit of Auxois Sud. Finally, don't hesitate to experience your first flight in an ULM!
