Stéphanie Danjou : “My bags recount a story”

In the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, Stéphanie Danjou designs ageless bags and creates quality pieces using traditional craftsmanship.
In 2017, you launched your eponymous brand of exclusive hand-made pieces, made from quality leathers. Where did this passion for luxury leather goods come from?

Above all, it was a passion for creation that led me to studying fashion design. I was always attracted to leather, but it is only since being in my professional life that I have specialised in leather goods.

How do your bags stand out from other already well-known brands?

In fashion, everything is a never-ending cycle. We get inspiration, we evolve, we determine our desires and our aspirations. What matters most to me is the way my bags are designed and produced. They tell a story, it is, above all, a story of craftsmanship, and in no way do I want to leave this virtuous circle - which makes sense to me - to turn to industrial fantasies.

You pay particular attention to detail, to quality, to the made in France and producing locally. Where do you find your inspiration?

From diverse origins. It could be an object, a personality, a painting, colours... I like to imagine bags that can be carried by my 90-year-old grandmother as well as by my 10-year-old niece! For the choice of materials, I work with French tanneries labelled “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living heritage company) for leather, and a weaving company in Laval which uses materials such as organic cotton or recycled bottles to create the interior linings of my bags.
